Arrivé en fin de séjour en terre camerounaise, Antonio PEDRO est venu dire au revoir au Ministre de l’Economie, de la Planification et de l’Aménagement du Territoire.

 «I came to thank the Minister, Mr. Alamine Ousmane Mey for the quality collaboration we had during my five years’ stay in Cameroon».

This was the statement made to the press by the outgoing Director of the Sub-Regional Office for Central Africa, of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, following anaudience granted to him by the Minister of the Economy, Planning and Regional development, on Monday, 30 August 2021. This meeting permitted MINEPAT and his host to review the state of cooperation between Cameroon and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA). According to these two officials, development cooperation was considerdeemed satisfactoryand made effective via the capacity building of Cameroonian public officials in various fields; the support to Cameroon for the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area; the adoption in September 2017 of the "Douala Consensus" aimed at diversifying the economies of the sub-region, which has been implemented since December 2017 by the Cameroonian government with significant progress.

In addition, several studies were conducted, as well as macroeconomic and structural guidelines defined, to accelerate the horizontal and vertical diversification of CEMAC countries. In this sense, Antonio PEDRO welcomed the importance that the government attaches to structural transformation, making it the pillar number 1 of the 2020-2030 National Development Strategy (NDS-30). The UN diplomat also reassured MINEPAT that his institution will continue to work in good intelligence with the authorities of Cameroon for the successful implementation of the NDS-30. As a reminder, Antonio pedro presented his letters of introduction in Cameroon in October 2016. This geologist in mining exploration who has just been deployed in Ethiopia, is of Mozambican nationality. He records over 30 years of experience in development issues.
