During this working session, they discussed some practical aspects of the organisation of the LCBC 3rd Forum of Governors on the Cameroon soil and decided on a tentative scheduling of the high level meeting. At the end of this exchange, the Executive Secretary of the LCBC and Head of Mission of the Multinational Joint Force (MJF) told the press that the proposed date of 4 - 5 October 2021 was agreed upon for the hosting of this important meeting. Mamman Nuhu added that it could be conducted in a combined session depending on how the sanitary situation related to the Covid-19 pandemic will evolve.
It should be noted that the holding of the 3rd edition of the LCBC Governors' Forum in Cameroon which was scheduled for 2020 was given the highest approval by the President of the Republic, Paul Biya in July 2019. However, due to the resurgence of the Covid-19 pandemic in Cameroon, the event was adjourned. It should be said that the CBLC Governors' Forum is a consultative and operational body of the LCBC meant to affirm the unique leadership and promotion of sub-regional dialogue on transnational and cross-cutting challenges and to coordinate joint actions of the 08 provinces or regions of Cameroon, Chad, Nigeria and Niger, most affected by the terrors of Boko Haram.
The upcoming forum shall aim at assessing the humanitarian and security development in the Lake Chad Basin, the progress in implementing stabilisation interventions, as well as the contribution of civil society to achieving stability in the region. Also, it will help review the state of civil-military and humanitarian cooperation, analyse the opportunities and stakes of cross-border cooperation and examine the various options and solutions for rehabilitating and reintegrating people formerly associated with Boko Haram.
As a reminder, the 1st forum was held in May 2018 in Maiduguri, Nigeria and the 2nd in July 2019 in Niamey, Niger.
