This financing agreement in the amount of 8.9 billion FCFA represents the initial contribution of the Cameroonian Government to the implementation of the Presidential Plan for Reconstruction and Development (PPRD) of the North West and South West regions. This funding, which represents 10% of the overall budget, will be made available to the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), designated by the Government as an Implementing Partner of the Program.

The PPRD, whose total cost amounts to 89.682 billion FCFA, aims to reduce the effects of the crisis on the populations and the economy of the two regions. It focuses on three pillars, namely: restoring social cohesion, rebuilding and rehabilitating basic infrastructure and revitalizing the local economy.

According to the UNDP Resident Representative, the PPRD will be implemented under specific conditions. It will be necessary to deploy a strong awareness and exchanges with the various members of society including traditional, religious authorities, associations, women and young people.

Jean Luc Stalon seized the opportunity of this signing ceremony to thank the Government of Cameroon for its commitment and determination to provide innovative solutions through interventions to get  the people of the North West and South west regions out of the vicious circle of poverty and violence. He then reaffirmed UNDP’s commitment to work closely with the Cameroonian government to achieve the goals of the 2030 and 2063 agendas.

For the Minister of Economy, Planning and Regional Development, the signing ceremony on Tuesday 05 May marks an important step in the start of the implementation of the PPRD. Alamine Ousmane Mey took this opportunity to invite all potential donors to support the Government in the implementation of this important Program, so that the well-being of all Cameroonians in general and those of the North West regions and in the South West in particular, is improved in the long term.

Note that the Presidential Plan for the Reconstruction and Development of the North-West and South-West regions which will be implemented over a period of two years, is a component of the National Development Strategy (SND), drawn up for a ten year period.
