Union of Central African States (UEAC): Inter-State Committee experts to discuss the draft 2020 budget

Deliberations on this 31 October focused on the examination of CEMAC's budget documents, before their adoption by the Council of Ministers of the UEAC. These meetings should therefore enable experts to provide a critical analysis of all the documents presented by the CEMAC institutions. For the ruling Chairperson of the Inter-State Committee, Charles Assamba Ondogo, who co-chairs the work with the CEMAC Commission Chairperson, Daniel Ona Ondo, the issue is to question the Strategic Vision and even the framework for intervention of the various bodies of theCommunity, with a view to better performance. In this regard, accelerating the process of regional integration, diversifying our economies and consolidating our macroeconomic balances, as prescribed by the Heads of State, must be the leitmotif of our sub-region and reflected in the various interventions of our institutions. This is an imperative, especially at a time when the world in general and Africa in particular is undergoing serious upheavals.

In this perspective, the current Chair of the Inter-State Committee, who is also the Director General of Cooperation and Regional Integration in MINEPAT, invited CEMAC to initiate discussions with the Economic Community of Central African States without further delay. It shall be about determining the position of our sub-region with a view to implement the agreement establishing the African continental free trade zone, which has already been ratified by most of our States.

Charles Assamba Ongodo adds that the community has not fully emerged from the crisis that has shaken it in recent years. Vulnerability factors remain, such as low growth in the oil sector, slowdown in non-oil sector growth in 2018 of 1.7% after a growth rate of 2.3% in 2017, as well as low intra-regional trade due to obstacles on road transport corridors.
